Employees and equipment at the Amulsar project site remain on standby until Levon Hovhannisyan and Garik Yeghiyan complete their site checks. Levon, an Health and Safety Specialist, ensures that all personnel comply with safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment, including hard hats and high-visibility vests. Garik monitors dust and noise levels to verify that all activities are carried out within established environmental standards.
Both Levon and Garik are from the village of Gndevaz in Vayots Dzor Province. Today, this is simply part of their everyday professional life. A decade ago, neither could have imagined pursuing a career in mining. Levon had trained as an economist, while Garik’s background was in hotel management. At the time, neither anticipated that they would one day become specialists in occupational safety and environmental protection with Lydian Armenia.
“I was 21 years old, had just completed my military service, and had decided that while pursuing my studies, I also wanted to start working. I joined Arpa–Sevan Company as a general labourer at a time when construction was underway at the Amulsar project. About six months later, I was offered the opportunity to join Lydian Armenia as an Health and Safety Monitor,” Levon recalls.
