Lydian Armenia Initiates Legal Action Against Nazeli Vardanyan Over Defamation

Lydian Armenia announces that it has initiated legal proceedings against lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan, seeking the retraction of statements it considers defamatory made during an interview published on January 20, 2026, by the online media outlet panorama.am and on its official YouTube channel.

The statements made by Nazeli Vardanyan during the interview do not reflect reality. They appear to be deliberately aimed at damaging Lydian Armenia’s business reputation and discrediting the Amulsar Project. Moreover, given the project’s significant economic importance for the Republic of Armenia and the long-term development of the surrounding communities, such statements undermine the legitimate interests of the citizens of Armenia.

Therefore, the initiation of this legal action is not an end in itself. As a responsible company, we are obligated to protect the rights and interests of the thousands of stakeholders of the Amulsar Project. We firmly believe that the freedom of speech does not extend to the dissemination of false information, misleading the public, or infringing upon the rights of others.

It should also be noted that in 2020 the court upheld another defamation claim filed by Lydian Armenia against Nazeli Vardanyan, concluding that the statements she had made about Lydian Armenia lacked any factual basis, were defamatory and unsubstantiated in nature, and caused significant damage to the Company’s business reputation.

Going forward, Lydian Armenia will remain steadfast in the protection of its rights and the rights of the thousands of stakeholders of the Amulsar Project.
